Antalya or Istanbul for Dental Treatment in Turkey? When the Coast Is the Better Choice

Antalya or Istanbul for Dental Treatment in Turkey? When the Coast Is the Better Choice

If your trip can include a beach holiday, the Antalya coast is the easier place to have dental treatment in Turkey: the clinic is minutes from your hotel, the days between appointments are a holiday rather than waiting time, and in season the flights are direct and often at package-holiday prices. Istanbul makes sense mainly if what you want is a city break. The dentistry itself is regulated identically in both. We are a clinic in Side, in Antalya province, so we have an interest here; everything below is something you can check for yourself.

What treatment on the Antalya coast looks like with us

Many of the patients who come to us from abroad did not fly to Türkiye for their teeth. They were travelling to Side, Manavgat, Belek or Alanya anyway, and used part of the holiday for treatment they had been putting off at home. That is what the coast makes possible, and it is how our clinic is organised.

  • Minutes from the hotel. 5‑15 minutes by car from Side centre, Sorgun and Titreyengöl, 15‑25 minutes from the other Side hotel zones. An appointment takes a morning or an afternoon, not the day.
  • Planned around your flights. You tell us when you land and when you fly home; the appointments are set inside those dates, with the check-up on the last day before the flight.
  • A written plan before you travel. Send two or three photos or a panoramic X-ray on WhatsApp and you receive a written treatment plan within 24 hours.
  • The right hands. Dt. Mustafa Yunusoğlu reviews every case personally, and implant surgery is carried out by a dental surgeon specialising in implantology.
  • Your language. The clinic works in English, German, Russian and Turkish.
  • Written guarantees. 10 years on implants, 5 years on crowns and veneers.
  • Someone answers. WhatsApp on +90 530 575 47 18 is answered at any hour, every day, before and after treatment.

We use the same implant brands and ceramics you would find at home, named tooth by tooth in your written plan. If you already have holiday dates, send them with your photos and the plan is built around them: the contact page has every way to reach us, and dental tourism shows how treatment fits into a holiday week.

Is the dentistry different?

Not by city. Every dental clinic in Türkiye is licensed by the same Ministry of Health, dentists qualify through the same five-year university degree, and a clinic that treats patients from abroad needs an international health tourism authorisation from the same ministry. The implant systems and ceramics are the same international brands in both places.

What differs is the clinic. Both cities have small practices where the same dentist sees you at every appointment, and both have large operations where a sales coordinator is your main contact. Both have careful planners and both have places that will crown twenty healthy teeth in four days. The city tells you nothing about which one you have found. Our guide is dental treatment in Turkey safe? lists what to check, and it applies equally to a clinic in Istanbul and to ours.

Which is easier to reach?

Istanbul is one of the best-connected cities in the world. It has two international airports, Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side, with direct flights every day of the year from almost every major airport in Europe. If you fly from a smaller airport, or in January, Istanbul is usually the simpler ticket. The flight from the UK is roughly four hours and from Germany roughly three.

Antalya Airport (AYT) is the gateway to the whole Mediterranean coast and one of the busiest holiday airports in Europe. In the season, roughly April to October, it has direct scheduled and charter flights from most UK and German airports and from many Russian cities, often at package-holiday prices. In winter the schedule thins out and many routes connect through Istanbul, which adds a few hours. The flight itself is only a little longer than to Istanbul.

The honest summary: for a summer trip the two are equally easy to reach, and Antalya is often cheaper because of charter capacity. In winter you usually connect through Istanbul, which adds a few hours to the journey and changes nothing about the treatment.

What happens between the airport, the hotel and the clinic?

This is where the two trips feel most different. Istanbul is a city of around sixteen million people spread over two continents. A clinic may be twenty minutes from your hotel or ninety, depending on the district and the hour, and the transfer from either airport crosses a good part of the city. Many Istanbul clinics solve this well with drivers and partner hotels next door; ask exactly how it works before you book.

On the coast the distances are small and the roads are simple. Our clinic is in Side, in the Manavgat district, about an hour by car from Antalya Airport. From the hotels it is 5‑15 minutes from Side centre, Sorgun and Titreyengöl, 15‑20 minutes from Kumköy, Evrenseki and Çolaklı, and about 25 minutes from Gündoğdu and Kızılağaç. Belek is about 40 minutes away and Alanya about an hour. You come by taxi or hire car, and an appointment takes a morning or an afternoon out of the day rather than the whole day. The page on getting to the clinic from your hotel has the full table, and dentist in Antalya explains where Side sits in the province.

What do the days of a treatment visit look like?

A visit for crowns or veneers takes 5‑7 days with two or three appointments, and the days between them are yours while the laboratory works. An implant visit takes 3‑5 days, with the surgery early and a check-up before the flight. In both cases most of the trip is free time, so the real question is where you would rather spend it.

Two-visit dental treatment timeline: implant surgery in Turkey, healing at home, then a short second visit for the final crowns
Implant treatment runs over two visits: surgery on the first trip, healing at home, and the final crowns on a short second trip.

In Istanbul that is sightseeing, which is wonderful with temporaries on your teeth and less wonderful the day after implant surgery, when you should be resting, not climbing the hill to the Grand Bazaar. On the coast it is a sunbed in the shade and a buffet with plenty of soft food. After surgery there are rules about sun, sea and alcohol for the first days wherever you are; our holiday aftercare timeline sets them out. High summer on the coast is hot, which is a fair point against July and August for surgery: spring and autumn are kinder.

Which is better for treatment that needs two visits?

Implants need two trips a few months apart: 3‑5 days for placement, then 2‑4 months of healing at home (up to 6 in the upper jaw), then 4‑7 days for the final teeth. The best place for that is wherever you would happily go twice. Many of our implant patients are people who come to Side every year anyway, and simply place the two visits inside holidays they had already planned. If you would rather see Istanbul twice, that is an equally good reason to choose Istanbul. The how many days do I need page sets out every treatment.

Is one city cheaper?

Not reliably. Fees are set by the clinic, the materials and the dentist's time, not by the postcode, and you will find a wide range in both places. The only comparison that means anything is between written plans that list the same things: the number of teeth, the material and manufacturer for each, what is included, and the guarantee. Every quote we give is a written plan based on your photos or X-ray, within 24 hours. The page on how we quote explains how it is built.

What does differ is the cost of the trip around the treatment. A week at an all-inclusive hotel on the coast outside the school holidays is often cheaper than a week in a central Istanbul hotel with restaurant meals, and the reverse can be true in August. Price the whole trip, not only the teeth.

The real choice is the setting: a coastal town where the clinic is minutes from your hotel, or a large city with longer transfers.

When the Antalya coast is the better choice

  • You already holiday in Side, Belek, Alanya or Antalya, or were planning to.
  • You are travelling with a partner or children who want a holiday, not a city.
  • You want the clinic minutes from the hotel and no city traffic on treatment days.
  • You need two visits and like the idea of two holidays.
  • You want to rest after surgery rather than sightsee.
  • You want a clinic where Dt. Mustafa Yunusoğlu reviews your case personally and the team speaks your language.
  • You live on the coast, as many British, German and Russian residents do; then the question answers itself.

When Istanbul makes more sense

We would rather say this ourselves than have you find out later. Istanbul is the better fit in three situations:

  • You want a city break and have no interest in the sea.
  • Your case needs a hospital setting, for example surgery under general anaesthesia or complex jaw surgery. Large hospital departments are concentrated in the big cities.
  • You pass through Istanbul for work anyway and can attach appointments to those trips.

For everything else that a dental clinic does, from a single crown to implants and a full smile makeover, the coast gives you the same dentistry with an easier trip around it.

Choose the clinic first, the city second

Whichever city you lean towards, ask every clinic the same five questions and compare the answers in writing.

  1. Who treats me? The name and qualification of the dentist, and whether the same person sees me at every appointment.
  2. What exactly is planned, tooth by tooth? A written plan, not a package name.
  3. Which materials? Implant system, ceramic and manufacturer, named.
  4. What does the guarantee cover, in writing? Ours is 10 years on implants and 5 years on crowns and veneers.
  5. Who answers after I fly home? And how quickly.

Our own answers to all five are in the section above on how treatment works with us. If you are coming to Side, Manavgat, Belek, Alanya or Antalya this year, send your travel dates and two or three photos on WhatsApp to +90 530 575 47 18 today: the written plan arrives within 24 hours and puts you under no obligation. The chair is open Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 19:00. The about us page introduces the team, patient reviews are collected on one page, and the contact page has the address for your taxi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Antalya or Istanbul better for dental treatment?

For most people who can combine treatment with a beach holiday, the Antalya coast is the easier choice: the clinic is minutes from the hotel and the days between appointments are a holiday. Istanbul suits people who want a city break rather than a holiday. The dentistry itself is regulated identically in both cities, so quality differs between clinics, not cities.

Is dental treatment cheaper in Antalya than in Istanbul?

Not reliably. Fees depend on the clinic, the materials and the dentist's time, and both cities have a wide range. Compare written plans that list the same teeth, materials, inclusions and guarantee. In Side the written quote arrives within 24 hours of your photos.

How far is Side from Antalya Airport?

About an hour by car, by taxi or hire car. From the local hotels the clinic is 5‑15 minutes from Side centre, Sorgun and Titreyengöl, 15‑20 minutes from Kumköy, Evrenseki and Çolaklı, and about 25 minutes from Gündoğdu and Kızılağaç. Belek is about 40 minutes away and Alanya about an hour.

Can I fly to Antalya for dental treatment in winter?

Yes, but the schedule is thinner than in the season from roughly April to October, and many winter routes connect through Istanbul, which adds a few hours. Check flights before you fix appointment dates, and tell the clinic your landing time so the first appointment is set for an hour you can make.

Is the quality of dentistry different between Istanbul and Antalya?

No. Every clinic in Türkiye is licensed by the same Ministry of Health, dentists hold the same five-year degree, and treating international patients requires the same health tourism authorisation. Ask any clinic in either city who treats you, for a written tooth-by-tooth plan, for named materials, for the written guarantee and for the aftercare contact.

Can I combine a beach holiday with dental treatment?

Yes. Crowns and veneers take 5‑7 days with two or three appointments, and swimming and sun do not affect temporaries. After an extraction or implant surgery the usual advice is shade, no sea or pool until the wound has closed and no alcohol at first, so plan the surgery early in the trip and the beach days later.

Which city is better for dental implants that need two visits?

The one you would happily visit twice. Implants need 3‑5 days for placement, 2‑4 months of healing at home and then 4‑7 days for the final teeth. Many patients choose the coast because they holiday there every year anyway and place both visits inside trips they had already planned.
